Steven L. Bridges is a curator based in Chicago. Currently he is Curatorial Assistant at the Museum of Contemporary Art, where most recently he organized a solo exhibition of the work of Chicago-based artist Jason Lazarus and assisted the major retrospective exhibition of the work of renowned sculptor Doris Salcedo. In addition to working at the museum, Bridges co-curates the Rapid Pulse International Performance Art Festival in Chicago—a 10-day festival of performances, panel discussions, artist presentations, and other live, participatory events. Previously, Bridges served as editor of the exhibition journal series Exchange Radical Moments!, which accompanied the live arts festival of the same name. In 2008, Bridges joined the curatorial team for the exhibition Intrude: Art & Life 366, which presented a different artistic project each day in Shanghai for an entire year. An avid writer, Bridges has published articles in journals such as Art & the Public Sphere, Live Arts Almanac Vol. III, Dispatch, and Art & Education Papers. Bridges holds Master’s Degrees from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in Art History, Theory & Criticism and Arts Administration & Policy.

During the 2014-2015 academic year, graduate students from the departments of Art Administration and Policy and Art History, Theory, and Criticism at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago collaborated with curator Steven Bridges to produce the exhibition, Cosmosis. Lydia Gordon, Matt Mehlan, Emily Owen, Grace Sheehan and Gabe Wilson conducted all artist and curator interviews; programmed panel discussions and the opening day celebration; workshopped the exhibition design; and created the Cosmosis living archive. Infused with a passion for exhibition management and creative practices, the team was excited to play an active role in the investigations between art and science here in Chicago! Thank you to Steven, all of the exhibiting artists, and our fearless professor Kate Dumbleton for the opportunity to work on this project.
